What Should You Expect From the 2021 Hyundai Elantra?

For the 2021 model year, the Hyundai Elantra has been given the full redesign treatment for a seventh production cycle. The compact car now looks longer, wider, and sleeker than ever before-and that's in addition to its great fuel-efficiency numbers, plenty of tech, and unparalleled warranty coverage. The 2021 Elantra is split into four trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.

Performance Features

Powering the 2021 Hyundai Elantra is the long-standing 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which puts out 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The continuously variable transmission to which the engine is attached has a gearless design that enforces a high level of smoothness on the roads near Portland. The powertrain is designed to provide an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 33 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway, solid numbers for a vehicle in its class.

Technology Features

With a remote keyless entry system, you can lock and unlock the 2021 Hyundai Elantra's doors by simply pressing the corresponding key fob button. For infotainment, the Elantra provides an eight-inch high-resolution touchscreen that combines six-speakers, an AM/FM radio tuner with HD Radio technology, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration. There are two USB ports: one for both playing content from a mobile device and charging it and the other for strictly the latter function.

The Hyundai Elantra now has the Hyundai SmartSense driver-assistance suite as standard. Hyundai SmartSense bundles together the following technologies:

  • High Beam Assist for automatically turning on the high beams during low-visibility driving situations and automatically switching off when oncoming traffic is detected to avoid blinding fellow motorists
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection to help warn you of a slowed or stopped vehicle or pedestrian ahead of you and apply stopping power if necessary
  • Blind-Spot and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Alerts for helping you avoid collision with vehicles you cannot detect in time or see at all
  • Lane Following Assist for using the car's front-view camera to detect lane markers and keep you centered in your lane
  • Lane-Keeping Assist to alert you when you wander out of your intended lane of travel without signaling
  • Driver Attention Warning for suggesting that you take a break if inattentive driving or drowsiness is detected

Interior/Exterior Features

The four-door Hyundai Elantra is a five-seater, with two rows of cloth-covered seats. The front consists of a six-way adjustable driver's seat and a four-way adjustable front-passenger seat. The Elantra uses a unibody construction for ultimate physical integrity; it is consequently sturdier than most other compact sedans around Portland. The car now has a sleek profile, with a cobweb-like grille that has the Hyundai emblem hovering over it and merges with the headlights to form a bull's-head shape. Fifteen-inch alloy wheels, projector headlights with LED daytime running lights and auto light control, and dual fold-away power side mirrors are standard.

Trim Level Breakdown

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is split into four trims:

Hyundai Elantra SE

The SE serves as the base-level trim. The previously mentioned features are what it offers.

Hyundai Elantra SEL

The SEL is a slightly spruced-up version of the SE. At this trim level, the rear seats can be folded down to expand cargo space. For infotainment, the SEL receives three years of Blue Link Connected Care and Remote packages for services such as service reminders and scheduling, monthly vehicle health reporting, roadside assistance, remote start with climate control, and remote lock/unlock. Also introduced at this trim level are dual-zone automatic control and proximity keyless access with push-button engine start.

Hyundai Elantra N Line

The N Line is positioned as the performance-oriented Elantra model. Out goes the 2.0-liter engine, and in comes the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox replaces the continuously variable transmission for a more exciting driving experience. The N Line is the only model with leather-and-cloth sports seats, a black headliner, a racing-style leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sports-oriented digital gauge cluster, and alloy sport pedals.

If you go with the available dual-clutch transmission, Hyundai adds steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Performance all-season tires are wrapped around large, 18-inch alloy wheels, and the combination of a dark chrome grille, chrome twin exhaust outlets, gloss-black window trim, and unique front and rear fascias exude a more aggressive feel. You'll also get side-mirror heating, a power sunroof, driver-seat power adjustability, front-seat heating, wireless device charging, and the brand-new Hyundai Digital Key app for letting your smartphone unlock the doors and start the engine.

Hyundai Elantra Limited

The Limited is the top-of-the-line Elantra model. As such, it is the only trim level with features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, turn-signal indicators on the side mirrors, and a 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen navigation system. You will also get LED headlights and taillights for brighter and longer-lasting illumination. One of the most exciting tech features is the dynamic voice recognition for performing functions ranging from heating the seats to popping open the trunk with just a single voice command. You will enjoy safety features like adaptive cruise control, reverse parking distance warnings, and highway drive assist.
